Deputy Director of Special Education

 

JOB GOAL:    To provide leadership in the special education instructional program and coordinate the Full Individual Evaluation (FIE) process.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  12 month contract (226 days)

 

Salary: Negotiable, depending on experience

 

 QUALIFICATIONS:

 

 Education/Certification: 

  •         Master's Degree in Special Education
  •         Valid Texas Teaching Certificate
  •         Special Education Certification
  •         Diagnostician Certification
  •         Preference will be given to applicants with (excess of 5 years experience as a practicing diagnostician)

 

  Special Knowledge/Skills:

   

   Knowledge of federal and state rules governing students with disabilities. 

   Knowledge of best practices in providing programming for students with disabilities.

   Exceptional organizational skills and time-management skills. 

   Ability to resolve conflicts.

   Exceptional oral and written communication skills.

   Basic computer skills and knowledge.

          

MAJOR PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

       

  1. Provides leadership in the special education instructional program.
  2. Provides support, instructional recommendations and coordination of the IDEA-B evaluation process.
  3.  Keeps informed of and complies with all policy and regulation requirements, state and district, governing special education.
  4.  Provides leadership in establishing new programs and developing improved understanding of existing programs.
  5.  Evaluates existing programs as an ongoing responsibility, and recommend changes and additions as needed.
  6.  Consults regularly with principals and classroom teachers regarding special education programs.
  7.  Assist special education teachers and support staff with interpretation of co-op policies and procedures, State Board of   Education rules and regulations, and state and federal law.
  8. Keeps informed of and comply with all policy and regulation requirements; both state and district governing special education.
  9. Recommends special education classroom and general education programs.
  10. Evaluates procedures for placement, evaluation, assignment, and reappraisal of students with regard to the special education program.
  11. Assists in developing and evaluating procedures for referral, securing medical reports, psychological examination, and placement.
  12. Assists in evaluating on an ongoing basis the total special education instructional program, curriculum, procedures, and individual students’ needs and achievements.
  13. Assists with programs of a remedial nature to supplement regular classroom instruction for those students receiving special education.
  14. Performs other duties as assigned by director.
  15. Coordinates the VAC and Transition programs.
  16. Takes lead role for Child Find responsibilities including identifying children in private/home schools within the Coop service area.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  1. Supervises and evaluates all co-op diagnostician and ARD facilitator staff.
